Washington Start Work to Implement TRIPP Project in Armenia

Armenia and the United States have started working on implementing the agreements on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, which will connect the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan region via Armenia, adopted at a meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump.

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker said at a meeting with Pashinyan in Yerevan she had come to discuss ideas that emerged during the August meeting between Trump and Pashinyan, the Armenian government press service said.

“Allison Hooker noted that she visited Yerevan to discuss deepening cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure, regional connectivity, and security. At the same time, she highlighted the launch of bilateral working groups led by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Sonata Coulter, aimed at implementing the bilateral agreements adopted at the historic summit and advance Trump’s Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” the press service said.

The continued cooperation between the U.S. and Armenia coupled with progress in achieving a comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and normalization of relations with Turkey creates prospects for opening the South Caucasus as a vital trade route, Hooker said.

Pashinyan said cooperation between Armenia and the U.S. has entered a new level and this partnership is perceived in a new way by the Armenian government and public.

Armenia and Azerbaijan initialed an agreement establishing peace and interstate relations between the two countries in Washington on August 8. Besides, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a declaration in Washington, which, in particular, states that Armenia will work with the United States jointly with some third parties on developing the framework of the TRIPP transport connectivity project on the territory of Armenia.
