This move very welcome as our team is not among the leading groups of the continent. We needed the help of a winning coach and Carlos Alberto is the best man around. It's true that all the important achievements on the field were obtained during the coach's career. According to a last millennium enquiry, Brazilian teams were acknowledged by FIFA in the category of the best hundred teams of the last millennium. The Brasilia coach formed teams that he really can be proud of because, indeed, he took immediate part of South Americans in the World Championship-70. In the final match against Italy, Carlos Alberto's precise kick allowed Brazilians to be three times winner of Jules Rime Cup. His biography is very rich in events. This football player defended "Flamingo", "Santos", "Botafogo" and also "Cosmos" and "Serfe" from USA. However, according to everyday statements, not every good football player can be form-master and achieve significant progress in this role. Today, Carlos Alberto will be coaching in Azerbaijan for the next 4 or 5 years and, most importantly, AFFA doesn't protest against the star's plans. The Association is interested in benefiting the Brazilian services for a long period, although the contract between the both sides is renewable each year. It is remarkable that the arrival of a foreign specialist caused debates between local coaches with such question: "do we really need a foreign coach?" AFFA's head, Ramiz Mirzoyev, considers that in the present conditions, Carlos Alberto is necessary for Azerbaijan. "We perfectly know the potential of local staff, but if we want to bring the level of our football up to the European one, we really need the specialists from abroad", he emphasized. The appointment of the Latin American testifies to the intention of AFFA to improve the level of local football and its prestige. Carlos Alberto has a lot of work ahead because it is difficult for in short time period to transform outsiders into leaders, let alone if it is even possible. "The fans have to understand that it's not possible to achieve progress in one day. This process will take much time and that's why we have to be patient", the coach thinks. In fact, football lovers have to be patient, because everyone knows that our combined team plays successfully only from time to time. However, our team has something to be proud of. as in elimination matches of Europe Championship 2004 our team brought to nothing Serbia and Montenegro hopes to fight to the final stage of Continental Championship.. At the Continental Championship, the Azerbaijan team played a 2-2-tie game with its opponent, and Baku won a victory over them with score (2:2) and made a sensation.
However this success is history and now the epoch of Carlos Alberto starts in Azerbaijan football. During his departure to Baku, he said that he doesn't want to create false hopes. First of all it is necessary to set to work seriously, he believes. Taking about his philosophy of football, the Brazilian player emphasized that during his preparation for matches he thinks mostly not about the rival's power, but about the model of his team. "We shouldn't be afraid of rival, because our team plays with the most powerful combined team, we have only to believe. Personally I believe and that's why I'm here", he stated. Meanwhile, our team will have an extremely difficult time in qualification to World Championship-2006, taking into account the talent of the opponent. Everyone knows that in sub-group Azerbaijan will be in the company of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Poland, and Austria, teams that surpasses us in many aspects. On the eve of championship's tournament, our team has still to develop its play and Carlos Alberto has to familiarize Azerbaijani players with winner's psychology. Of course, our team at once won't be able to play first-class football and to beat one rival after another. Only it is important to achieve that.
Nevertheless, why do the AFFA invite the South-American player in our republic? Maybe, the Brazilian style is best suited for the Azerbaijan team. Azerbaijan players prefer to dodge the rival adventurously instead of giving it a chance to. But contemporary football has changed. Now the question is: will Carlos Alberto be able to deep-root the new ideas to Azerbaijan players? Will he be able to develop strong physical endurance, reactive speed and the ability to take a quick decision to Azerbaijan players? According to Brazilian, money is not important to him. Simply. it is a great pleasure to him to work in Azerbaijan. He likes our country and he wants to improve our football. "There are some moments when finances moves into the background, but the human qualities and the desire to work for the well-being of football moves into the foreground. Maybe I'll lose concerning money, but at the same time I'll know that my activity is necessary here", said Carlos Alberto. Of course, it sounds like a sincere statement, but now the main thing is: will he make progress with the Azerbaijan team? This is questionable.
